Cave to power walls – 1 becomes 2

TU Kaiserslautern used to feature a four-sided cave at the Chair of Production Engineering and Plant Organisation/Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering. Both there and at the Chair of Computergraphics & HCI/Department of Computer Science, the plan was to create power walls – and in a budget-friendly way.

Accordingly, our brief was to use another supplier’s existing cave to design, manufacture and install two power wall systems. No sooner said than done:

We uninstalled the existing four-sided cave and dimensioned the vertical acrylic screens to 2,760 × 1,725 mm. Two of the custom-fit screens were installed in each rear-projection power wall. The power walls were equipped with the latest projection, computer and tracking technology to meet the requirements of the two institutes of the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern.

The power wall technology

  • Projectors: Barco F80-4K7, 7,000 lumens, 4K UHD, DLP laser phosphor projector
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5000
  • Tracking: DTrack2, ARTTrack2 software

The power walls are successfully in use and we would like to thank the university for the order!
